Liberate Yourself!

Liberation is one of the biggest afro and soulful house related events in Holland. Liberation was founded in 2012 by Randy Matahelumual (Soulroots), a passionate music lover who puts all his time in it to realize his dream. He started this event because of the lack of Soulful, Deep & Afro House oriented events. Nowadays there are plenty of events that are focused on the mainstream audience and where they only play radio and television hits. Their main goal is to share great music with their audience. They feel that it is very important having a storyline in the music that will be played at the parties. So it’s necessary to choose the right artists and place them in the right order. Their goals: Increase awareness about Soulful, Deep & Afro House, Get more international artist into Holland, Take Liberation to the next level by going international and last but not least Infect a million people with ‘the Soulful allergy’

Almost all the big names in the scene have already played at this major event. Artists like: Black Coffee, Djeff Afrozila, Culoe De Song, Manoo, Rocco, Rancido, Ivan Diaz and Chappell. This event takes place in Rotterdam, a city that has 176 different nationalities. This is reflected in the large number of exotic restaurants, stores, famous festivals such as the Summer Carnival and North Sea Jazz, but especially to the enormous variety of people. So, it’s the perfect place for this event.

Upcoming Edition: Liberation with Djeff Afrozila & Shimza // Fri, 19 Jun 2015

For the upcoming edition, they invited Djeff Afrozila birth name Tiago Barros, born in a cultural crossroad. If Lisbon, Portugal, was the city that welcomed him into this world in 1984, his roots lie in Africa, on his father’s Cape Verde and on his mother’s Angola. Growing up in a capital city such as Lisboa meant being exposed to pop music of the 80s: Michael Jackson, Europe, Michael Bolton, Brian Adams, and many others, but living in an African heritage house also meant a close connection to the African roots with bands and musicians such as Kassav, Tabanka Jazz, Livity, Grace Evora, Eduardo Paim, among others. From his older sister came his first contact with electronic music – Robin S, Reel 2 Real, Sizequeen, Daft Punk, Armand Van Helden – and it was an instant and everlasting crush.
Djeff Afrozila is founder of ‘Kazukuta Records’ that he create in 2011, a home for his music, for new African talents but also the first electronic music label from Angola. DJeff is both a leader and an inspiration. Kazukuta is growing on the international scene.

Alongside Djeff they also invite Dj Shimza, real name Mr. Ashley Raphala was born inTembisa, Ekurhuleni and grew the love of music particularly from his early days as a child. He debuted into house music as a DJ in 2003 where he went on to win the Red Square DJ competition in 2006 which lifted his status in the house music arena. He went on to win the South African Music Conference’s DJ Spin offs Competition, National VO Bertrams “The Next Big Thing”. The highlight of his career came when he won the Gauteng Carnival DJ Competition in 2011. Winning this competition gave him much needed exposure and startup equipment. He went on to establish and host the prestigious annual “Dj Shimza’s One Man Show” and play in the country’s big concerts including the Spring Fiesta Spring Explosion, Oh Ship and YFM gigs alongside big names like Fresh, Black Coffee and Oskido.
